Hi guys! I hope all of you had an amazing November and are super excited for Christmas and that you’re ready to end this year with a bang. I know that I’m so ready to go home for the holidays, see my family, eat some island food and get my tan back.
This month I made my very first smoothie bowl and I have to say it was my favourite discovery so far on the vegan journey that I’ve launched myself on. I then went on to make several other smoothie bowls as well as regular smoothies, yes in the cold single digit winter weather of London, prepping myself to make them on those hot afternoons at home while I bake under the sun. I love having so many ingredients readily available here so I couldn’t help experimenting with everything and making different concoctions.
My top tip: I learnt that in order to make your smoothie have an icier consistency you have to go easy on the milk otherwise you’ll end up with something more liquid and all your toppings will sink right to the bottom. I haven’t been very consistent with measurements, I kind of estimate the quantities but basically each smoothie has the equivalent of 1 big banana, a small handful of nuts and then about 2/3 cup of milk but again that depends on how runny you want the smoothie to be.
Second tip: All the ingredients are fruits and veg so you can’t really go too wrong. Mix and match, play around with different colours, and see what happens because that’s the most fun part! I make all of my smoothies with either soy, cashew, almond, or coconut milk so they’re all vegan but dairy milk works exactly the same.
Lastly, you want to make sure you invest in a good quality blender. It doesn’t have to be a super expensive state of the art one, just so long as it looks strong enough to blend your rock solid frozen bananas. Good luck with your smoothies and here are my favourites from this month:
- Smoothie 1 (aka the first smoothie ever): Banana, Blueberry and Raspberry, Cashew Milk
- Smoothie 2 (aka the ‘Nomad’): Banana, Dates, Almonds, Figs, Agave Nectar, Cashew Milk
- Smoothie 3 (a.k.a the hangover smoothie): Spinach, Pineapple, Coconut Water, Mixed Nuts
- Smoothie 4 (a.ka the ‘tropicana’): Banana, Mango, Coconut pieces, Coconut Milk, Almonds Milk, Agave Nectar, Mixed Nuts
- Smoothie 5: Banana, Avocado, Blueberries, Almond Milk, Spinach/Kale, Mixed nuts, Agave Nectar
