After four books filled with heart-wrenching, gut-clenching, and grin-inducing scenes, Jennifer L Armentrout brings the Lux series, and with it, the stories of Daemon and Katy, to an epic end. In this final installment, the Luxen have invaded Earth with egos that even Deadalus couldn’t dream of boasting, and the love between the couples will be tested like never before. With the aim of taking control of the entire planet, the invaders, with traitors from the already established Luxen communities, have wiped out entire cities, killing thousands of innocents: human and Luxen alike. Our drop dead gorgeous hero, Daemon and his book-loving, butt-kicking hybrid girlfriend Kat, along with Dawson, Dee, Archer and of course the kid-mafia undeniable, Luc, are back and they have a plan that will involve an unexpected and most unpredictable alliance ensuing, all to save the planet and restore the peace between the inhabitants of Earth. But sorrow, betrayal, loss and pain will not be far behind, sending them to the edge of their sanities and testing their loyalties to the breaking point. A roller-coaster of romance, danger and epic battle scenes will culminate in a heart-stopping sacrifice when our beloved heroes will discover whether they really are prepared to die for the ones that they love.
I have been a faithful follower of the escapades of all these captivating characters since the moment Katy knocked on Daemon’s door and was faced with his picture perfect abs and killer smile, but I did not expect this final book to be as amazing as it turned out to be! Right from the beginning all the way to the final epilogue, this book did not disappoint. Every paragraph on every page was absolutely splendid and Armentrout sucks us right into the world that she has created with her mind.
She brings all our beloved protagonists to their full potential and then some! The Black siblings are as irresistible as ever, Dee with her ever-loving heart and bubbly personality (well, for most of the book that is), Dawson with his quiet but devoted persona and of course Daemon who despite being found in the middle of a battle, can still crack a line that can leave all the girl readers giddy while still blasting enemies left, right and center and looking like a friggin’ god. I’m sorry, I use the word ‘looking’ because in my mind I don’t read the story…. I see it! If you’re as book gaga as Katy and I, you should understand what I’m saying! J Speaking of Katy, she comes back as fierce as ever while still retaining the fragile, big-hearted soul that we feel in love with. The characters that joined them on the way: Luc, Archer and Beth, are also given their due limelight and fall right there with all the people we will miss now that it is all over.
The plot that the author runs is full of twists, turns, dives, plunges and loops that will leave you dizzy. The excitement never stops and my heart was literally speeding up, trying to keep up with all the action that is so well described and emotion that might as well have been my own. (Yes I get very engrossed into my books, sue me! I’m sorry guys you know I love you I’m just excited). Amidst all the action and intensity, Armentrout still manages to integrate some fantastic humour and romantic conversations that melt our insides into gooey mush.
Even if at some point during the third or fourth book, (which was right about when we were graced with the prequel ‘Shadows’) you got a bit disappointed (which is crazy in my opinion) this ending undeniably wraps things up in an unforgettable manner. The fans were most certainly not disappointed and I have to give it to this author but she sure knows how to end her books. Of the authors that I have encountered so far, she is definitely one who knows how to end her series without any disappointment; as she proved with her other series: Covenant (If you haven’t read this series then you are missing out on some godly intensity!)
Sadly, all good things must come to an end and I couldn’t have asked for our characters to have a better one. They will certainly remain in the hearts of the fandom and although we may never hear from Daemon or Kat again, they will always have a place in the hearts of us; the ever loyal readers.
So until next time, I’ll leave you with one of my favorite lines from the book, which happens to be the last line. I don’t mean to get all emotional, but finishing a series always makes me a warm kind of sad. With a smile, I closed the book, held it to my chest and this is what actually made me clap out loud:
“…Don’t let me down Kitten”
My heart thumped like thunder in my chest as I said the truest words ever. “I’m game for anything with you, Daemon Black”
Yours till the lip stick,
